INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
International Women's Day is a day dedicated to celebrating the achievements of women and promoting gender equality.
Here at BTTG® & Shirley® International Women’s Day is a significant event given 53% of our workforce is female. Did you know that International Women’s Day has its roots in the textile industry, specifically female garment workers? The International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union (ILGWU) was formed in 1900 and was one of the largest unions voicing the concerns of female workers. It fought for labour and human rights, focusing on achieving equality with male professionals and executives.
BTTG® & Shirley® staff have chosen to spotlight women around the world by adding a pop of purple into their work attire & nibbling on purple macarons, made from English Rose Bakery, a female owned business in Urmston, Manchester.
We’re celebrating the achievements of women and working towards creating a more inclusive and equitable world for all. Whether it's supporting women-led businesses, advocating for gender-balanced leadership, or simply being an ally and an advocate for women's rights.
Together we have raised money for our chosen charity The Pankhurst Trust, a Manchester-based charity that incorporates Manchester Women’s Aid and The Pankhurst Centre.
